Environmental Rehabilitation Activity in Jigjiga Area
Obviously, the Human being, Animals and the environment are interdependent each other thus, if the environment is subjected to any damage or degradation means disaster for both Human and Animals.
People justify this harmful practice that they use as fire wood for cooking, housing and charcoal for business where other alternative approaches are not available on the ground in Somali Region yet.
In cooperation with partners,OWDA implements this project in Jigjiga Wareda (capital of Somali region state. According to the baseline study conducted by, some areas in the Somali region have been going gradually to be desert particularly those have no forest structure like jigjiga zone areas; some others are deforested And subjected a significant man-made destruction due to lack of knowledge about environment protection as well as it’s advantage for the human.
The objectives of the project are:
- To foster the amelioration and the protection of the environment
- To enhance the capacity of environmental protection management activities.
The expected beneficiaries will be at (590) while its duration is 1-Aug. 2005 – 31-july-2007. Consequently, the expected beneficiaries will be aware of all environmental related protection aspects and will disseminate the attained knowledge to the others.
